PhD with Dr. Peng Wei's group at George Washington University

Peng Wei is an associate professor at George Washington University Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering with courtesy appointments in Electrical and Computer Engineering Department and Computer Science Department. By contributing to the intersection of control, optimization, machine learning, and artificial intelligence, he and his group develop autonomy and certification tools for aviation, aeronautics and aerial robotics. He is leading the Intelligent Aerospace Systems Lab (IASL). Peng is an AIAA Associate Fellow. He serves as an associate editor for AIAA Journal of Aerospace Information Systems and the chairman of the AIAA Air Transportation Systems Technical Committee. He received his Ph.D. degree in Aerospace Engineering from Purdue University in 2013 and his bachelor degree in Control Theory and Information Science from Tsinghua University in 2007.

Prof. Wei's past and current graduate students worked for full time research positions and internships at Amazon, ByteDance, Mathworks, MIT Lincoln Lab, Airbus, Johns Hopkins APL, Kent State University, NASA Ames, FAA, American Airlines, Air France/KLM, TuSimple, Airmap and Metron Aviation. There will be one PhD position open in his group starting from Fall 2024. The PhD position (fully funded by graduate research assistantship) can be in MAE department, CS department or ECE department (by the student's choice). Motivated students with excellent mathematical background and strong programming skills are encouraged to apply including but not limited to background in mathematics, control theory, optimization and operations research, statistical machine learning, robotics, computer vision and perception, and reinforcement learning.
